Abstract

The article provides an overview of the main approaches to literature as an academic discipline in the XIX beginning of the XX century. The author of the disclosed features of formation and development of methods of teaching literature in Russian school. It was found that during the study period are added various pedagogical direction of flow in the teaching of literature and relevant scientific schools on the development of methods of teaching literature: academic; educational, cultural-historical, psychological, intuitive, formal.
