AN INTERPRETER IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS AS A MODEL OF SIGN LANGUAGE FOR DEAF STUDENTS

The article represents requirements for Sign Language interpreters in Ukrainian educational institutions, which recite in «Guide of Qualification Characteristics of Workers Occupations». Ukrainian educational inter- preter in article describes as a model of Sign Language for deaf students. It opens additional functions of edu- cational interpreter as a modifier of lecture’s speech. Cause, interpreter applies techniques of accommodation and prosody for more correct Sign-Spoken interpretation. It recites the bill of higher education institutions in Ukraine, which have groups for hearing impairments students and presents results of monitoring in terms on level of interpreters’ language receptive skills. It describes the widespread errors in interpreting process and malpractice of educational interpreters. The author draws interdependence between lecture and interpreter through deaf students’ perception. The article describes specifics and causes of positive and negative deaf stu- dents’ perception of lectures’ speech.
