THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS AND STRATEGIC ASPECTS OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING FOR STUDENTS: ACADEMIC REVIEW

Abstract

In the context of modern educational realities in Ukraine, the article provides a comprehensive analysis of the theoretical foundations and strategic aspects of foreign language teaching. The focus of the study is on the need for the development of language and intercultural competences, which are key components of the training of competitive specialists in the globalised world. The importance of the Bologna Process is highlighted, which contributes to the adaptation of the Ukrainian education system to European standards, in particular through the integration of language training with professional disciplines. The main component of the modern educational process is the communicative approach, which ensures the practical application of language knowledge in real-life situations. It promotes critical thinking, adaptability and the ability to cooperate in an intercultural environment. Particular attention is paid to the use of modern digital technologies in the learning process. The study confirms the effectiveness of multimedia resources, interactive platforms, digital storytelling and reflective reporting in terms of student motivation and the development of their language skills. Integrating these technologies into the learning process not only improves the quality of education, but also contributes to developing the digital literacy necessary for successful professional careers. The article also highlights the importance of the involvement of native speakers, who help immerse students in an authentic language environment and develop intercultural sensitivity. On the basis of the analysis, a number of recommendations are formulated for the improvement of the foreign language training of students in higher education institutions in Ukraine. In particular, it is suggested that the integration of intercultural elements into the curriculum, the introduction of modern technologies, the emphasis on the practical application of language skills and the stimulation of students’ independent work should be encouraged. The article proposes conceptual approaches to the reform of foreign language teaching. These approaches can serve as a basis for further research and improvement of the educational process.
