The article provides a theoretical justification for the psychological and pedagogical conditions of organizing English language lessons in the 5th grade within the framework of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) concept. Special attention is given to the analysis of the students’ adaptation period during their transition to secondary school and its impact on foreign language learning. Key psychological and pedagogical aspects that contribute to the effective acquisition of English are identified, including motivation development, consideration of students’ age characteristics, the creation of a supportive learning environment, and the application of modern teaching methods and technologies. The study explores the main approaches to organizing the educational process that promote the formation of foreign language communicative competence, specifically activity-based, student-centered, and competencybased approaches. The significance of interactive teaching methods, including group and project-based activities, the use of digital technologies, and authentic materials, is substantiated. A separate section is devoted to the transformation of the teacher’s role, the creation of a favorable educational environment, and the implementation of modern teaching approaches that ensure the development of students’ foreign language communicative competence. The study revealed that the successful formation of foreign language communicative competence in 5th-grade students largely depends on an emotionally supportive educational environment, the adaptation of teaching methods to children’s age-specific needs, and the implementation of student-centered and activitybased approaches. It was found that learning effectiveness increases with the integration of interactive technologies, differentiated instruction, and formative assessment, which facilitate active student engagement in communication.
