Abstract

Purpose. Purpose of the article is to provide a theoretical substantiation and analysis of the effectivenessof implementing a contextual approach through the integration of professionally oriented content intothe process of foreign language training of technical university students to develop their professionalcommunicative competence. Methods. A complex of general scientific methods was applied, includingthe analysis of relevant sources, systematization, and generalization of theoretical data to provide an objective coverage of the researched problem. Results. The article examines the features of integratingprofessionally-oriented content into the process of teaching professional English to students of technicalspecialties based on the contextual approach. It is emphasized that a graduate’s competitivenessis determined not only by technical expertise but also by their level of English language proficiencyas a tool for professional practice. Ukraine’s integration into the global economic space necessitatesa modernization of the «English for Specific Purposes» (ESP) curriculum. The author substantiatesthe need to update educational programs, thematic content, and the implementation of innovative teachingmethods that correlate with dynamic changes in the professional environment. Mastering the disciplineis viewed as a multi-faceted process of forming linguistic skills based on profound professionalknowledge. This involves the confident use of professional terminology within standard grammaticalstructures. The content of the course is characterized by a high degree of variability and adaptability tothe specific profile of study. Conclusions. The effectiveness of forming English language communicativecompetence depends on the systematicity of the educator’s preparatory work: from analyzing educationaland professional programs (EPP) to developing original didactic materials. Successful learning is possiblethrough the integration of professionally oriented content based on a contextual approach (problembasedlearning methods, round tables, role-playing games), which allows students to act as experts. Thisapproach ensures not only the attainment of the B2 level but also the graduate’s readiness for continuousprofessional self-improvement in the global scientific and techn ical space.
