THE ROLE OF TEXTBOOKS AND PROGRAMS IN TRANSITION FROM ”MEMORY” SCHOOL TO “MENTALITY” SCHOOL

Abstract

In 1999 Azerbaijan accepted the concept the curriculum on the basis of education reform. The main goal was to replace the traditional system which was not meeting modern requirements any more with the more progressive one. This was the beginning of progressive development of Azerbaijani education. Curriculum in Azerbaijan is an innovation in true sense. The main goal is to activate thinking processes of students, and encourage their interest to study. To achieve this goal, new textbooks are being developed. During the process of textbooks development age characteristics are taken into account. There are used various technologies in order to ensure proactive thinking.
