DEVELOPMENT OF FUTURE BIOLOGY TEACHERS’ COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE DURING STUDYING PEDAGOGICAL SUBJECTS
Abstract
The article highlights the value of communication for personal development, experience exchange, studying process, and professional development of future Biology teacher. Students need to form and develop communicative competence, to manage and use appropriate methods, means and techniques of communication. Teacher should have the communicative competence in order to help the students in developing their own, since one of the key competencies the school leaver should obtain is the ability to speak the state language and some foreign languages as well.
The article covers the way other scholars explain the term «communicative competence». In the early 70-ties, D. Hymes regarded communicative competence as ability to communicate with other people effectively and successfully. Both Ukrainian and foreign scholars explain communicative competence as a complex of knowledge and communicative skills, the culture of written and spoken language in general and the ability to use these communicative skills properly to establish good relations with wider public.
Communicative competence is marked as a key one. The main point of future Biology teacher’s communicative competence is determined as integrative personal feature, the effective use of spoken and written language, verbal and non-verbal means of communication in order to interact with students, their parents and colleagues successfully.
Interaction with people, cultural heritage, attentiveness to the behavior of one’s partner in conversation, analysis and situation modeling are the main ways of communicative competence practice and development.
It was explained the importance and necessity of future Biology teachers’ communicative competence during studying of the pedagogical subjects. There were provided the examples of tasks for project activities, mini-researches, modeling and discussing of pedagogical situations. There were also given the examples of discussion questions that could be used during teaching of pedagogics, history of pedagogics, tertiary education, ecological education. These tasks help to form the culture of spoken language.
Moreover, teacher should be able to express own thoughts with the help of written language. To develop the needed skills for this kind of activity, there were recommended essay writing tasks. Also it’s quite important to expend future Biology teachers’s vocabulary with pedagogical terms to make the development of communicative competence more profound.
